Annual General Meeting (AGA) 2024

We are pleased to invite you to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of TOPO members on Wednesday 28 August 2024 at 5.30pm. The AGM is a meeting place where we present to members the results of our activities, the plan for the coming year and the issues that should guide our actions.

2023-2024 was a year of continuous renewal for TOPO, both in the Vitrine, with a change of thematic cycle, and behind the scenes, with in-depth work on organisational optimisation and the shaping of our new website.

Here's a short summary, and we're gathering around the AGM to move forward despite the attrition of financial resources allocated to culture by our arts councils. We need to recharge our batteries with the spirit of the times!

A summary of our year

In the spring of 2023, our Vitrine transported us to the virtual landscapes of N-h9, a world of dreamlike creatures imagined by Sandrine Deumier, before bringing us back down to earth, to the border between France and Spain, where we had sent artist Michel Huneault on a residency the previous year. This stay in the Basque Country was the starting point for the 4 Hours, adapted by TOPO for the web:  topo.art/4heures.

Before the summer break, we launched a new call for projects for the 2024-2026 programming. In July, we supported the presentation of Natalie Doonan's multimedia performance VerdunReality on the banks of the St Lawrence in Verdun. In August, our director went to the Media Factory in Hamilton to present the ILINU/ILIDI project and its virtual exhibition alongside Jessica Rodriguez and Alejandro Brianza from the Andamio collective.

The Fluidity thematic cycle (2021-2023) ended in the autumn with a Vitrine display of visual abstractions inspired by nature and imagined by Isabella Salas with the help of artificial intelligence: Rêverie Sympoïétique. In the autumn, Cléo Palacio-Quintin reinterpreted nature with her "éolithes", rocks chosen or imagined to inspire the poetry of Thierry Dimanche and the music of the Quatuor Bozzini. Her Vitrine installation, Échos et reflets des éolithesis one of twelve scenes in the ALÉAS project, a poetic and interactive application for tablets currently under development at TOPO.

The new artistic programming spans until 2026. The selected projects revolve around the themes of nostalgia, ecology and simulacra. The work that opened the Vitrine, Brume, a pixelated video game, proposed the rescue of a post-apocalyptic city besieged by fire, not without a drop of humour...

Last but not least, two new workshops went very well: one on strategies for making digital literature fun, with around ten participants, and another on photogrammetry, with Éric Filion, offered to two groups of around ten people.

Mick SAND - DREAM STATE

In July we welcomed artist Mick Sand and his colleague Demetrio Barreca for a creative residency based around Dream State, a performance inspired by the cultural impact of generative artificial intelligence.

The artist has been invited to present his work during the residency, and will be showing the footage of the closing performance that took place on July 20.

Call to the community

Poll - your interests in artificial intelligence

In preparation for its next series of workshops, TOPO is looking to align itself as closely as possible with the specific needs and expectations of its community in the field of artificial intelligence.

It's hard to ignore the drastic changes this technology has brought to artistic activities, although it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. So we'd like to survey you to find out more about your needs. To do so, please fill in this form.
