Presented in the TOPO vitrine’s, the ‘sand’ module, taken from the MIRAGES, exhibition, is an immersive installation where the projection of an experimental dance short film unfolds across a wide surface of sand, transformed into a living screen. The film, directed by filmmaker Xavier Curnillon in collaboration with Emmanuel Jouthe and his team, captures the dancers with remarkable closeness and sensitivity. Through intimate close-ups, it unveils the body’s organic essence — a living interplay of skin, breath, muscle, and pulse.
The grains of sand become landscape, substance, and screen, embracing movement in a slow metamorphosis. This visual and sensory experience invites a quiet contemplation of life itself, where image and matter merge.
The short film premiered in Montreal in March 2023, during the 41st International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), as part of La Nuit de la danse.
